Uniplaces is an international, venture backed company, addressing the £400bn global student market by making it easy for millions of students to find and book their accommodation online. As part of our growth strategy, the company is looking for an experienced FP&A analyst to add to our Finance & BI team in Lisbon.


The role

Reporting directly to our Finance Director, the successful candidate will be a senior and key addition to our Finance & BI team, which is split between London and Lisbon.


The expectation is that this role works not only with the FP&A team but also with the wider business on the understanding and communication of key financial data. The FP&A analyst will be expected to update and improve upon the business financial model and work through varying sensitivity and scenario analyses on current and projected business performance


Working on a full-time basis you will undertake the following responsibilities:

  • Improve and maintain our financial model and ensure information is accurate and up-to-date

  • Manage scenario planning and sensitivity analysis and the reporting of these results to the leadership team and board.

  • Work on a quarterly forecast update

  • Assess and diagnose methodologies of financial reporting/forecasting and propose more efficient/automated solutions

  • Own and communicate any target changes for the business, working with BI team

  • Report on cost variances to heads of departments and work with those teams to accurately forecast expenditure

  • Work with BI team on changes to company strategy and their impact on the business financials

  • Assist the business with negotiation and maintenance of supplier contracts, driving efficiencies and economies of scale

  • Act as a control point for company expenditure, with oversight on headcount additions, supplier purchases and travel & entertainment expenses

  • Analyse KPIs, variances, trends and patterns to recommend business actions;

  • Help Uniplaces get a deep understanding of revenue and cost drivers;

  • Other ad-hoc projects as required

Key Success Criteria

  • Regular update of financial model;

  • Maintaining and improving the reporting on an ongoing basis

  • Enabling strategic decisions taken on the back of accurate, insightful analysis.

  • Maintain strong working relationship with teams;

  • Work with the heads of departments to ensure accurate forecasting of business expenses;

  • Assisting in negotiation and consolidation of expenses to create efficiencies and cost savings;

  • Clear, timely weekly and monthly reporting and communication to the business stakeholders;

Requirements

Skills & experience:

  • Industry experience in FP&A/Business partnering roles (5+ years in relevant roles)

  • Advanced knowledge of Excel (essential) & Google Sheets (preferred);

  • Strong conceptual and analytical skills;

  • Proven self-starter with experience of being able to work independently, juggling and prioritising across workloads and consistently meeting deadlines

  • Attention to detail;

  • Excellent analytical and communication skills (both written and oral), preferably with commercial exposure in previous roles

  • Ability to build effective relationships with financial or non-financial and internal or external stakeholders, e.g. sales, finance, operations, marketing

  • Commercial orientation and financial awareness;

  • Interest and knowledge of marketplace business models;

  • Previous experience in online/technology/start up environment preferred

  • Netsuite experience is preferable but not essential
